Hey guys,

I have been asked about this file: PnkBstrB.exe as well as PnkBstrA.exe running in different people's system proceesses. I had never seen those files before and didn't know what was up. I noticed them in my processes this morning and did a file location search on my PC. And those files can be found in your COD2/PB folder.

I have since submitted a support ticket to EB asking what exactly this is, but haven't heard back from them. I was wondering if anybody here has knowledge of what these files do and are they clean or some type of trojan or virus?

The link says you have to sign-up for it. I did not and I do not have these on my system.

Download the following program:

http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe

Open the program above and click the "Uninstall" button. This will remove the PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe service.

Some may need to rmove the registry entries.

Go to START --> RUN .. type regedit

search in these parts

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Controlset001\Sevices look for PnkBstrA PnkBstrB and PnkBstrK .. just right click on the folder listed on the left and delete.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Controlset003\Services look for PnkBstrA PnkBstrB and PnkBstrK .. just right click on the folder listed on the left and delete.

We had the same problem with Americas Army and all other PB related games.

GL!

Also in C:\windows\system32\drivers is PnkBstrK.sys .. safe to delete.

Then go play.

Eventually everyone will be using that version of punkbuster. So even though you might scoff and complain about it in it's Beta version at the moment, please inform PB of any degrading performance effects it had on your PC so we can all enjoy its benefits in the future.

Use their web ticket system to notify.

Thanks.

I have never signed up to use this. However, that being said, I am all for PB trying to make the games they cover much more cheat resistant. If that causes a little lag, then so be it.
