I play in a league for a Quake 3 Mod. Obviously we have PB enabled and run a pretty hefty config to try and catch as many people as possible cheating. We even take screenshots on the clients and inspect them all for wallhacks. This doesnt find aimbotters tho.

In a recent match, the server was getting bogged down. Everyone had 300+ pings when we usually are around 50ms. Everyone except one person that is. Now this one person I have suspected in the past of using an aimbot, but PB has never said anything. After the match was over, the server admin traced down the problem. Apparently it was something with PB, and conpletely reinstalling it fixed the problem.

To me this kind of hints that PB wasnt checking or wasnt running on this one dude's system as his ping stayed @ 40 ms while everyone else's was well over 300 ms. Am I out to lunch or may there be something to my observations? If so how do we proceed to get concrete proof to ban this f'er?

ok first off, its not about the size of the config your running, its about running the right things.

*Keep in mind this is for PunksBusted STREAMING servers. If you have your server is streaming, it helps A LOT with cheat detection. We've got admins that work hard to ensure people caught cheating do not get to play on streaming servers.

And no just because the server is wigged out and everybodies ping goes to 300, doesn't mean anything. Just means a router someplace died, and hes not passing thru that router. How do I know this? Check this pic of AB's server crapping out.

Do not ban anyone unless you have DEFINATIVE PROOF they are cheating. That means a PB Cheat Violation residing in sv_cheat.log, a PB Screenshot or a cheat specific cvar residing in sv_viol.log.

what neck said-- jamel would not know how to cheat, lol-- and he would turn anyone in that even tried to explain how, heh. that pic of neck's is a good case in point as to why you cannot go by the pings as a check for hacks, but damn, I wish I had his routing, lol.
